New Poll: 2009's Break Through

Who Will Breakthrough in 2009?

2009 saw the emergence of several new stars on the tour. Although none of the men mentioned above challenged Federer, Nadal, or Djokovic for dominance, they served notice that perhaps they were the next generation of dominant players.

Who will break through in 2009 and translate their potential into rankings. Vote for the player that you think will make the largest jump in their ranking from the year ending 2008 to the year ending 2009. Consider the following players:

1. Juan Martin del Potro (Argentina, 2008 Ranking: 9). Juan Martin did well in the end of summer stretch, winning tournaments like the Legg Mason in Washington, DC and going deep into the U.S. Open.

2. Gilles Simon (France, 2008 Ranking: 7) Like Juan Martin, Gilles Simon turned it on towards the end of the season winning Indy and reaching the finals of the Madrid Masters.

3. Andy Murray (UK, 2008 Ranking: 4) Andy has routinely been able to hang with the big boys, like Roddick and Federer, but has not managed to make the push into the top three. Will this be the year for Andy to take Federer, Nadal, or Djokovic’s place as an elite player on the tour?

4. Jo Wilfried Tsonga (France, 2008 Ranking: 6) The Australian Open was Jo Wilfried Tsonga’s coming out party, as he made it all the way to the finals only to lose to Novak. He also won the Paris Masters Tournament later in the year.

5. Fernando Verdasco (Spain, 2008 Ranking: 16) Fernando was one of the heroes of this year’s Davis Cup final versus Argentina, when the Spanish team went into Mar de Plata, Argentina and held off the Argentines to take the cup. He also won Umag, Croatia this year.

6. Stanislas Wawrinka (Switzerland, 2008 Ranking: 13) Stan got off to a quick start this year, winning Doha and Rome. Will he be able to sustain throughout the 2009 season?

Vote and let your voice be heard!!
